We live in remarkable times.
A vast amount of information is available to us at our fingertips 24/7. We can take out our ‘phones’ and out of the ether, communicate with anyone. We can work remotely; we have games that immerse our minds in a different world from the comfort of our specially designed gaming chairs. We have stationary bikes with screens to make it look like we’re actually riding somewhere. We have ‘virtual reality’ devices that give us simulated experience and 4-K TVs that are so crystal clear, it almost feels ‘real’.
Technology has given us a lot, but at what cost?
Technology, no matter how advanced, can never come close to the actual experience. We can watch white water rafting, through a point of view ‘go pro’ camera on our 65” 4-K TV with incredible surround sound, and it’s pretty great, but it isn’t the experience of white-water rafting.
Consider the vast tapestry of cultures, traditions, and histories that make up our global community. Each thread interwoven tells a unique story.
If we are satisfied with simulated, counterfeit experiences, we don’t give ourselves the chance to be a part of this magnificent narrative. The aroma of foreign cuisines, the cadence of unfamiliar languages, and the warmth of new friendships can’t be experienced through our electronic devices.
There are so many beautiful places and adventures to be had in our world. Let’s get off the couch and out of the super-cool gaming chairs and go experience them first-hand. Let’s LIVE instead of watching other’s experiences or imaginations play out on a screen.
Where do YOU want to go? What do YOU want to do? Let’s get creative and brave and GO and DO instead of SIT and WATCH. Let’s get down and dirty in the beautiful sensuality of LIFE.
